This Privacy Policy explains how Robert Merchant, doing business as Pet Band Tee (“Pet Band Tee,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and shares information when you visit petbandtee.com, design a custom shirt, or place an order (collectively, the “Services”). By using the Services, you agree to this Policy.

1. Information we collect

Information you provide

  • Design inputs. Your pet’s name, breed/character description, expression and motif choices, and any text you enter into the design generator.
  • Pet photos. If you choose to upload a reference photo of your pet, we collect that image. Uploading a photo is optional. We automatically strip embedded metadata (such as GPS location and camera data) from uploaded photos before storing them.
  • Uploaded artwork. Images you upload as your own design.
  • Order & contact information. Name, email address, shipping address, phone number (if provided), and order details.
  • Account information. If you create an account: username, email, and order history.
  • Communications. Messages you send us (support emails, design revision requests).

Information collected automatically

  • Usage data. IP address, browser type, device information, pages viewed, referring URLs, and interactions with the design tool (e.g., number of previews generated).
  • Cookies and similar technologies. We use cookies and session storage to keep your cart, remember designs you’ve created in your browsing session, and operate the site. We may also use analytics and advertising cookies/pixels (e.g., Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, TikTok Pixel) to measure site performance and ad effectiveness. Where required by law, we request your consent before setting non-essential cookies.

Payment information

Payments are processed by Stripe. Your card number and full payment credentials are transmitted directly to Stripe and are never stored on our servers. Stripe’s handling of your data is governed by its own privacy policy at stripe.com/privacy.

2. How we use AI to create your design

Pet Band Tee designs are generated with the assistance of artificial intelligence, directed by our in-house art style. To create your preview:

  • Your design inputs (pet name, breed/character, expression, motif selections) and, if you provided one, your pet’s reference photo are sent to OpenAI (our image-generation provider) to produce the artwork.
  • OpenAI processes this data under its API terms, which state that API inputs and outputs are not used to train OpenAI’s models. See openai.com/policies.
  • Generated designs are stored on our servers so you can review, reorder, and (after purchase) revise them.

Your reference photo is used only to guide the artwork toward your pet’s appearance. It is never printed, published, sold, or used to train models by us.

3. How we use your information

  • To generate design previews and produce and ship your order;
  • To process payments, prevent fraud, and maintain records required by law;
  • To provide customer support, process revisions, and honor our Roadie Guarantee;
  • To send transactional emails (order confirmations, shipping updates, design revision links);
  • To send marketing emails only if you opt in — you can unsubscribe at any time;
  • To operate, analyze, and improve the Services, including enforcing generation limits and abuse prevention;
  • To comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.

4. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with:

  • Service providers that help us run the business: OpenAI (image generation), Stripe (payments), our web host, print/fulfillment partners (who receive your name, shipping address, and the final print file), email delivery services, and analytics/advertising platforms as described above;
  • Shipping carriers, to deliver your order;
  • Legal authorities, when required by law or to protect our rights, users, or the public;
  • A successor entity, if we sell or transfer the business (you’ll be notified of any material change in ownership or use of your data).

5. Retention and deletion

  • Pet reference photos are retained while needed to generate and revise your design, and are deleted or scheduled for deletion within 90 days after your order is finalized (or sooner on request). Photos uploaded without a completed purchase are deleted within 30 days.
  • Generated designs tied to a purchase are retained so we can honor reprints, replacements, and reorders.
  • Order records are retained as required for tax, accounting, and legal purposes.
  • You may request deletion of your photos, designs, or account data at any time at support@petbandtee.com; we will comply except where retention is legally required.

6. Your rights

Depending on where you live (including the EU/UK under GDPR and California under CCPA/CPRA), you may have the right to:

  • Access a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
  • Correct inaccurate information;
  • Delete your personal information;
  • Object to or restrict certain processing, or withdraw consent;
  • Opt out of “sale” or “sharing” of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising (as those terms are defined by California law) — we do not sell personal information, and you can opt out of advertising cookies via our cookie settings;
  • Receive your data in a portable format;
  • Not be discriminated against for exercising these rights.

To exercise any of these rights, email support@petbandtee.com. We will verify your request and respond within the time required by applicable law. EU/UK residents may also lodge a complaint with their local supervisory authority.

7. Children’s privacy

The Services are not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in the EU/UK), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

8. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards — including HTTPS encryption in transit, access controls, and metadata stripping on uploaded photos — to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. International transfers

We are based in the United States and our service providers (including OpenAI and Stripe) process data in the U.S. If you access the Services from outside the U.S., your information will be transferred to and processed in the U.S., which may have different data-protection laws than your jurisdiction.

10. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date above reflects the current version. Material changes will be announced on the site or by email before they take effect.
